Police arrest man in theft from 93-year-old in wheelchair

New York City police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing $600 from a 93-year-old woman’s bra as she sat in a wheelchair.

Police charged 26-year-old Broyoan Lopez, of Brooklyn, with robbery, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.

The theft happened Wednesday in East Harlem; Lopez was arrested Friday.

Police say the woman had taken the money out of the bank for her rent and put it in an envelope inside her blouse.

They say the suspect who had observed her followed her to a clothing store where she was shopping with her health aide.

Police say Broyoan approached her from behind, grabbed the envelope and fled.

The incident was caught on video.

It wasn’t clear if Lopez has a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.
