Snowfall warning for Coquihalla, Highway 3

The drive from the Interior to the Lower Mainland this weekend could be a bit of a challenge thanks to the dump of snow on high elevation highways.

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Hope and Highway 3 from Princeton to Hope via the Allison Pass.

A trough of low pressure will cross the Interior today, Feb. 24, with heavy snow on starting this evening, according to the warning.

Forecasters say between 15 to 20 centimetres of snow are expected at the Coquihalla Summit and Allison Pass. Southern sections of the Fraser Canyon could get up to 10 cm of snow.

The snowfall should gradually ease on Sunday, the warning states.

The heavy snow means reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions on the mountain highways.

Check out the Environment Canada website for the latest on the snowfall warning.

The latest driving conditions can be found at the Drive B.C. website here.
