Vernon driver in trouble after hitting pedestrian; found with a controlled substance
VERNON – A Vernon man was heavily reprimanded for hitting a pedestrian with his car earlier this week.
On Feb. 27, police were called to attend a collision where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 30 Avenue and 30 Street, downtown Vernon.
Officers found a 73-year-old woman on the ground being treated by B.C. Ambulance Services and Vernon Fire and Rescue Services for injuries, RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says. The woman was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
“The driver of the truck involved remained on scene and was cooperative with police. Investigation into the incident led officers to enter into an impaired operation of motor vehicle investigation and the male driver was found to be in possession of a controlled substance,” Brett says.
He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. He also received two violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act.
“Further investigation showed the male driver to be on court ordered conditions, to which he was allegedly breaching by having a knife in his possession,” Brett says.
The 34-year-old Vernon man is facing possible charges of breach of probation and was released from custody with a court appearance of May 24.
