TORONTO – The UFC is expanding its women’s roster.

The mixed martial arts organization is starting up a women’s strawweight (115-pound) division, to add to the bantamweight (135-pound) weight class already on the books.

UFC president Dana White says Invicta FC, a women’s promotion, is assigning the contracts of 11 of its fighters to the UFC to help stock the division.

Sixteen female strawweight fighters will take part in “The Ultimate Fighter” reality TV show in May next year, with the winner being crowned the 115-pound women’s champion.

The UFC has eight men’s weight classes, from flyweight (115 pounds) to heavyweight (205-265 pounds).

(Rowdy) Ronda Rousey is the current women’s bantamweight title-holder.
