BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A 16-year-old Alabama girl has been killed in what police say was an apparent drive-by shooting.
Birmingham police Sgt. Johnny Williams tells AL.com that officers responding to a call of gunfire early Sunday couldn’t find signs of gun activity, but were later alerted to Arrielle Lashawn Parker-Jefferies arriving at a hospital by personal vehicle. She had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead around 30 minutes later.
Williams says investigators learned Parker-Jefferies was inside a car when another passed by and began firing into the vehicle. He says few other details are available.
Parker-Jefferies was a rising senior at Wenonah High School, where she was on the dance team. Birmingham City Schools issued a statement Sunday calling for the community to address violence against youth.
