Police watchdog called after fatal shooting in Penticton, B.C.

PENTICTON, B.C. — Mounties in British Columbia’s southern Interior say they’ve notified the provincial police watchdog after a confrontation that left one man dead and an officer injured.

Penticton RCMP say they received multiple 911 calls Tuesday reporting a man acting erratically and allegedly waving a knife.

They say “an interaction occurred” between the man and an officer, and the fired their gun.

The Mounties say the man was provided first aid before being taken to hospital, but he later died.

The officer was also taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and has since been released.

RCMP say the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is now investigating the actions of police.
