Canadian freeskier Travis Gerrits takes first place at aerials World Cup
BEIJING, China – Canada’s Travis Gerrits won his first aerials World Cup event on Sunday with a score of 126.70 at China’s Olympic Bird’s Nest Stadium.
Gerrits, from Milton, Ont., beat out three strong Chinese competitors, and the rest of a strong international field, to not only win the competition but also secure the tour’s yellow jersey as the FIS Aerial World Cup leader.
He completed a perfect quadruple twisting, triple-flip in his final jump.
“I am super stoked to have won today,” Gerrits said. “I couldn’t have done it without the help and strategy of my coaches and my entire team. To do it in the Bird’s Nest was truly incredible. I am truly grateful for everyone’s support.”
Also competing for Canada was Montreal’s Jean-Christophe Andre, who placed 13th.
In women’s action on Saturday, Sabrina Guerin of Laval, Que., finished 24th.
