ESPN reporter Britt McHenry says stress over a viral video that showed her hurling personal insults toward a towing company clerk may have led to a condition that caused permanent eye damage.
McHenry was suspended for a week by ESPN after the March 2014 video in which she insults the clerk’s intelligence, job and appearance surfaced online last year. She later apologized on Twitter.
McHenry tells Marie Claire magazine that while dealing with the stress over the incident, the vision in her right eye became cloudy. She says she was later diagnosed with CSR, a condition in which she says vision can be impaired through extreme trauma and stress.
She says she now receives eye injections and her doctor told her that her vision may never improve.
