VANCOUVER – Canada’s Vasek Pospisil earned a Odlum Brown VanOpen semifinal berth with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Gilles Simon on Friday night.
The 32-year-old dominated the first set before Simon came on strong in the second looking to push the match to a third set.
Tied at 5-5 in the second set, Pospisil closed out the match winning the final two games.
The Vernon, B.C., native will take on Arthur Rinderknech on Saturday.
After defeating Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves in the opening round on Tuesday, Pospisil won against Jordan Thompson on Wednesday to earn himself a spot in the quarterfinals.
Pospisil is the lone Canadian remaining in the tournament.
