LIMA, Peru – Peruvian authorities say at least 12 people died when a passenger bus veered off the road and crashed along the country’s northern coast.
Officer Carlos Contreras of the highway police in Viru province says 29 people were also injured.
Contreras said Saturday that the vehicle left its lane and flipped over, but the cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
Such accidents are common on the country’s rural roads. On Friday a two-bus collision in southern Peru injured 36, and in April two crashes a week apart killed a total of 43 people in the Andes mountain range.
