Intersection construction to begin next week in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – You can expect traffic snarls as the city begins construction on safety improvements at a busy Kamloops intersection next week.
The city's capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says in a media release the project at 8 Street and Fortune Drive, which starts Monday, April 23, will improve visibility and safety for both drivers and pedestrians. The city is hoping to have finished construction by the end of June.
Drivers can expect traffic delays along the construction route with the northbound and westbound curb lanes closed between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the right-hand turning lane closed for the duration of the project.
The city recommends drivers use the detour via 7 Street. Busses will be rerouted down 7 Street.
Businesses and pedestrian access will not be affected and local residents and businesses will be kept informed of any major impacts, the city says.
Some of the intersection improvements include installing a right-turn channel, replacing concrete on the curb, gutters, sidewalks, updating traffic lights, marking pavement and putting in signage.
