Crown says mother and uncle aided in murder of Jassi Sidhu in India
VANCOUVER – A Crown lawyer says the mother and uncle of a young British Columbia woman killed in India aided and abetted in the woman’s murder.
Jassi Sidhu’s mother, Malkit Kaur Sidhu, and her uncle, Surjit Singh Badesha, face extradition to India, where they are charged in the murder conspiracy related to the woman’s death.
In closing arguments at the B.C. Supreme Court extradition trial, Crown lawyer Deborah Strachan (STRAWN) says Badesha and Sidhu are not accused of killing the young beauty but of counselling others to commit the murder.
The pair from Maple Ridge, B.C., face murder and attempted murder charges in India.
Jassi Sidhu was allegedly murdered in June 2000 for marrying against the wishes of her family.
Her husband, a poor rickshaw driver, survived the attack.
