Montreal police say three men are being questioned as important witnesses to a homicide after a robbery suspect died following an altercation with citizens.
Police say they were called to a fight in the street Tuesday night. When officers arrived, they found the men holding an unconscious 34-year-old man, who later died in hospital.
The victim allegedly committed a robbery at a nearby convenience store in the east-end Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood and was tracked down by the trio.
The men — 37, 48 and 78 years old — are being questioned today by major-crimes detectives.
Investigators are also awaiting the results of an autopsy.
Const. Raphael Bergeron says no weapon appears to have been used in the slaying.
