Penticton’s first urban winery opens for tours this weekend

PENTICTON – It’s spring in the South Okanagan, a perfect time for a wine tour.

Visitors and residents alike can now tour a winery without leaving Penticton as Time Winery opens its doors for the first time this weekend.

The former Pen Mar Theatre building has been transformed into a state of the art winery in downtown Penticton. Tours start at noon today, May 4 at 361 Martin St. Cost is $10. For more information, see the Time Winery website here.

International Workers Day is being celebrated today, May 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. as the South Okanagan Boundary Labour Council joins forces with Penticton Firefighter’s Charitable Society for May Day in the Village.

The family-oriented event includes a barbecue and takes place at the Penticton Safety Village at 490 Edmonton Ave. Live music, kids entertainers, face painters and a bouncy castle rounds out the afternoon. International Workers Day is a time to honour the contributions of workers in the region and the achievements of the Labour movement. The event is free.

Okanagan Valley artists have their work on display at the Okanagan Valley Art Fair, at the Shatford Centre on Saturday, May 5 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A reception takes place Saturday evening with appetizers and refreshments, including a cash bar. Art viewers and buyers are welcome.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
