DUNCAN, B.C. – Mounties say horse-hair thieves have targeted a Duncan, B.C., property for the second time.
RCMP Cpl. Krista Hobday says a horse owner in the central Vancouver Island entered her barn and discovered somebody had sheared the hair from the tails of five horses.
She says two horses at the same property had their tail hair cut off last March.
Hobday says police have not yet determined a motive for the most recent incident on Jan. 12, but notes that horse hair is used in crafts and ceremonial masks.
She says the theft will affect the horses’ well-being because the animals use their tails to fend off insects.
Hobday says whoever is responsible could face mischief charges.
