Atlanta: Rabid coyote caught, euthanized after biting person

ROSWELL, Ga. – Officials say a rabid coyote that bit a person in a greater Atlanta suburb has been captured and euthanized.

Local media outlets report that the coyote bit a person Monday in a park in Roswell. Health officials for that northern suburb said the coyote tested positive for rabies and was subsequently euthanized.

Authorities with the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness didn’t immediately identify the person bitten, their medical condition or specifics of how it happened.

A department statement warned those living near or frequenting the Roswell park to avoid contact with wild animals. It also cautioned that area pets should have up-to-date rabies vaccinations and not be allowed to roam freely where they could encounter wild animals.
