AUGUSTA, Maine – Some victims of last year’s fiery train derailment in Lac-Megantic, Que., want former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell from Maine to serve as negotiator as they seek money from the bankrupt railroad company.

A document filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Count in Bangor, Maine, late Wednesday from the Meyers & Flowers law firm shows that the victims are seeking to install Mitchell as the plan fiduciary in the case. The Chicago law firm is representing some of the victims.

Bankruptcy trustee Robert Keach told the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1aKKjW8 ) that the plan will likely be dismissed. He says the plaintiffs’ lawyers are the only ones supporting the idea.

Keach says the firm represents a small group of victims in Lac-Megantic who declined to join an official victims committee.
