Trans-Canada Highway closed near Chilliwack, B.C., after fatal crash

CHILLIWACK, B.C. – The Trans-Canada Highway was closed for about 12 hours Saturday east of Chilliwack, B.C., following a fatal two-vehicle crash.

Lower Mainland District RCMP say they believe an eastbound vehicle crossed into the westbound lane Saturday morning, killing the passenger in the westbound vehicle.

Insp. Vishal Mathura says both drivers were taken by air ambulance to the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.

B.C. Emergency Health Services said paramedics and multiple ambulances attended the scene after receiving a call at 10:46 a.m. and that the two patients were in critical condition.

Drive B.C. says the highway was closed in both directions until nearly 11 p.m.
