LONDON – Harry Redknapp has been fired by Tottenham after almost four years as manager of the Premier League club.
Chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement on the club website posted early Thursday that “this is not a decision the board and I have taken lightly.”
The 65-year-old Redknapp paid the price for the club failing to qualify for the lucrative Champions League.
Redknapp took charge at White Hart Lane in October 2008 when Spurs were bottom of the Premier League and secured a top-four finish the following season, steering them into the Champions League for the first time.
Redknapp said on the website: “I have had a fantastic four years with the club, at times the football has been breathtaking. I am sad to be leaving.”
