Two southern Ont. residents charged by RCMP with making a terrorist hoax

TORONTO – RCMP say two southern Ontario residents are facing charges following an anonymous national security tip that was later determined to be a hoax.

RCMP say Integrated National Security Enforcement Teams based in Toronto and Edmonton began investigating the terrorist hoax on Jan. 22.

Insp. Lise Crouch says terrorist hoaxes are far from harmless pranks.

Crouch says investigating potential threats consumes significant resources and time for the police and other agencies that play a role in public safety.

Darlton Graham of London, Ont., and Majorie Chamberlain of Brantford, Ont., are charged with terrorist hoax and public mischief, while Chamberlain faces an additional charge of counselling an offence.

Police did not reveal the nature of the hoax and Sgt. Richard Rollings says the pair are to appear in court in London, Ont., on March 18.
