Protesters demand Alberta government cancel plan to cull feral horses

CALGARY – The capture of some of Alberta’s wild horses has begun and is sparking anger from critics.

The Alberta government says feral horses are an invasive species and cause damage to the environment and that’s why it has approved the capture of up to 200 of them.

While some horses will be kept for breeding, others will be slaughtered.

About 50 protesters turned out in Calgary today to protest the move.

Anita Virginello says there is no proof that the cull is necessary.

She says most of the horses will be sent to the slaughterhouse and others will be killed during capture.
