Hundreds of travellers to Guam quarantined over virus fears

HAGATNA, Guam – Nearly 400 people who returned to Guam from coronavirus hotspots were in government-imposed quarantine at three island hotels.

Many of the travellers arrived from the continental United States, where the number of new cases has steadily risen.

Guam’s regulations were implemented two weeks ago by Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero.

People coming from high-risk areas must quarantine for 14 days. If travellers tested negative within 72 hours of leaving for Guam, they can self-quarantine at home.

Without a negative test, they must quarantine at a government facility.

Current facilities being used by the government are the Wyndham Garden Hotel, with 178 quarantined people, Oceanview Garden Court with 139, and Bayview Hotel with 78.

There have been 312 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Guam, with 97 active cases and five deaths as of Tuesday.
