Winner at Westminster Kennel Club heads to Broadway’s ‘Kinky Boots’ for star turn

NEW YORK, N.Y. – There are plenty of divas onstage at Broadway’s “Kinky Boots” — and a special four-legged kind plans on joining them soon.

Sky, the 5-year-old wire fox terrier crowned top dog at the Westminster Kennel Club, will have a walk-on role at Thursday night’s performance at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. She will kick off the show by helping warn patrons to turn off their cellphone and return for the curtain call.

“Kinky Boots” is about a shoe factory that struggles until it finds new life in drag footwear. The songs are by Cyndi Lauper and the story by Harvey Fierstein. It won six Tonys, including best musical.

Last year’s best in show winner, Banana Joe, made an appearance onstage at “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.”
