Jason Kenney says there’s no rift in Tory caucus, laughs off leadership talk

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Employment Minister Jason Kenney says there’s no federal Conservative caucus rift that he knows of and that he remains “good friends” with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty.

Kenney and Flaherty have been at odds in recent public comments ranging from Toronto Mayor Rob Ford to the Canada Job Grant.

Kenney laughed off any suggestion during a visit to St. John’s that any perceived conflict has to do with his own leadership ambitions.

He says the Conservatives have a good leader in Prime Minister Stephen Harper and he looks forward to running under him in the 2015 election.

Kenney was in the city to speak to a business awards luncheon.

He urged the province to buck demographic trends and boost its population through immigration and other efforts to attract newcomers.
