Patrick Dempsey’s racing team selected to compete in 24 Hours of Le Mans

ATLANTA – Actor Patrick Dempsey’s racing team has been selected to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Dempsey Racing said Sunday that its Porsche 911 GT3 RSR was accepted Thursday by Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s selection committee to run in the GTE-Am class in the June race. The team was fourth last year.

“We are honoured to have been invited back to Le Mans, it is an amazing, larger than life event and the wonderful fans in France and the incredible support from the ACO always make this race a pleasure,” Dempsey said in a statement. “It is an honour, but also a somewhat humbling and certainly daunting task to now have to actually put all of the pieces in place to be able to race at Le Mans just four months from now. But we are up to the challenge.”

The “Grey’s Anatomy” star is running the United SportsCar Championship season with full-time co-driver Andrew Davis, with fellow team principal Joe Foster joining them for endurance events. Patrick Long joined Dempsey last year at Le Mans, while fellow Porsche factory drover Marc Lieb team with Dempsey, Davis and Foster last month in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
