Brother of former Olympic skier Podivinsky dies skiing in Montana

The brother of Canadian Olympic skier Edi Podivinsky has been killed in a ski accident in Montana.

Thomas Podivinsky’s father, Edward Podivinsky, says his son died Sunday while on a family holiday in the resort community of Whitefish.

The local sheriff’s office says the 48-year-old oil executive from Calgary fell into a hole at the base of a tree.

Ski patrollers found his body but were unable to revive him.

His younger brother, Edi, won a bronze medal in downhill skiing in 1994 in Lillehammer.

It was the last time a Canadian won an alpine medal in the Olympics until last weekend, when Jan Hudec captured a bronze in the super G event.
