12-year-old girl dead following B.C. skiing accident, says resort

PANORAMA, B.C. – A ski resort in southeastern British Columbia says a 12-year-old girl has died following an accident on the mountain.

The identity of the girl hasn’t yet been released, but media reports say she is from Saskatoon.

Panorama Mountain Village says the girl was skiing with her father Thursday morning when she lost control, veered off a run and struck a tree.

The girl and her father were airlifted to a hospital in Invermere, B.C., but the mountain says she died due to head and internal injuries.

The resort also states she was wearing a helmet, visibility was excellent and the snow surface was soft and groomed.

Resort CEO and president Steve Paccagnan says staff are doing everything they can to assist the family.
