NY jury to hear details of Kerry Kennedy routine as trial starts in drugged-driving case
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Kerry Kennedy’s morning routine at her suburban New York home is likely to be the focus of her drugged-driving trial.
She says a mix-up of her medications led to a 2012 highway collision with a tractor-trailer.
Kennedy was arrested after the crash. Police said she failed a sobriety test. Blood tests revealed a small amount of a sleeping drug.
Kennedy, the ex-wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, claims she accidentally took a sleeping pill instead of her daily thyroid medication.
Her case goes to trial Monday.
Prosecutors say it’s up to the jury to decide if the drug was taken accidentally. And even if it was, they say, Kennedy broke the law if she kept driving after feeling the drug’s effects.
Efforts by the defence to get the charge dismissed failed.
