OTTAWA – Two Conservative cabinet ministers are taking aim at Justin Trudeau for his weekend tongue-in-cheek remarks linking the upheaval in Ukraine to Russia’s Olympic hockey humiliation.
Employment Minister Jason Kenney is on Twitter accusing Trudeau of thinking the deadly crisis in Ukraine is a laughing matter.
Industry Minister James Moore has also posted a tweet drawing attention to Trudeau’s joke on a Radio Canada show on Sunday night.
The NDP, meantime, has a YouTube video featuring his comments.
At the end of a big Olympic hockey weekend in which the Canadian men’s team took home gold in a match with Sweden, Trudeau was asked about the situation in Ukraine and the prospect of Russian involvement.
He joked that Russia, perhaps fuming at being eliminated late last week from the hockey medal round might vent its spleen by involving itself in Ukraine.
