RCMP nab suspect in rough, backcountry chase in West Kelowna

WEST KELOWNA – A stolen pickup truck proved no match for RCMP all terrain vehicles during a chase through the woods in West Kelowna earlier this week.

RCMP say just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, officers spotted a stolen pickup truck in the Bear Creek and McDoughall Creek forest service road area.

Police set up a spike belt on Bartley Road to catch the suspect, but the driver stopped, threw the truck into reverse and managed to get away in reverse, avoiding the roadblock, according to an RCMP media release.

Police hopped onto ATV’s and pursued the Ford F-350 into the heavily forested area and eventually caught up with the suspect who was arrested without incident.

The pickup was reported stolen on July 9 from Bulman Road in Kelowna.

Cody Lee Allen Nelson, 28, of Kelowna was held in custody and has been charged with possession of stolen property, flight from police and possession of a controlled substance.

He was scheduled to appear in court today, July 12.
