Five members of Alberta family hurt in crash on B.C.’s Coquihalla Highway
MERRITT, B.C. – Five members of an Alberta family have been injured in a crash in British Columbia.
Merritt RCMP Const. Mike Halskov says the crash happened Sunday, in the northbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway, between Hope and Merritt.
He says the driver of the Alberta-bound SUV fell asleep and woke up when the vehicle travelled onto the gravel shoulder, but he overcorrected, sideswiped a transport truck, and the vehicle rolled several times.
A woman was airlifted to hospital, while the driver and three children, including an infant, were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Halskov says the children are fine, the woman's injuries are serious but not life-threatening, and the driver of the transport truck was not hurt.
The crash closed the northbound lanes of the highway for hours, but traffic was rolling again early Monday. (News1130)
