New bill calls for regulations after fatal duck boat crash
BOSTON – The parents of a 28-year-old woman who was struck and killed by an amphibious sightseeing vehicle in Massachusetts are supporting state legislation that would require new safety rules for the vessels, known as duck boats.
Ivan and Martha Warmuth plan to join lawmakers at a Statehouse news conference on Wednesday to announce the filing of the bill. Their daughter, Allison Warmuth, was driving a scooter that was struck by a Boston Duck Tours vehicle on April 30.
The bill, sponsored by Democratic Sen. William Brownsberger would require all amphibious sightseeing vehicles to be equipped with blind spot cameras and proximity sensors.
The proposal would also prohibit drivers from serving as guides or narrators for passengers at the same time they’re operating the vehicle.
