Harper on his way to G20 as Greeks go to the polls in pivotal vote

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Stephen Harper leaves today for the G20 summit in Mexico.

While Harper is on his way to Los Cabos, Greeks go to the polls in a vote that could send ripples through financial markets and set the stage for the country’s exit from the eurozone.

Europe’s economic troubles are expected to dominate the two-day meeting of the world’s 20 most important economies.

Harper has urged the Europeans to take quicker action to deal with their debt crisis.

But the prime minister says Canada has no plans to pledge more money to the International Monetary Fund to help stabilize the world economy, if the need arises.

He says the Europeans are wealthy and have the means to deal with the crisis themselves.
