TORONTO – Clara Hughes is off on her 12,000-kilometre bike ride around Canada.
The six-time Olympic medallist left Toronto’s Maple Leaf Square at lunch time for Clara’s Big Ride for Bell Let’s Talk, a 110-day journey to promote conversation about mental health.
Hughes, who won Olympic medals in both cycling and long-track speedskating, left Toronto for Hamilton on Day 1 of her journey, accompanied by some 100 cyclists.
Hughes, who has been vocal about her own struggles with depression, will visit 95 Canadian communities on the road to a stigma-free Canada.
She’ll end her tour in Ottawa on July 1 — Canada Day.
