Russian forward Nail Yakupov sets sights on first pick in NHL draft

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Russian starlet Nail Yakupov says he doesn’t know what the NHL draft will bring him but he know where he wants to go.

And that’s first overall. In his words: “First is first.”

The Edmonton Oilers currently hold the first overall pick, ahead of Columbus and Montreal.

Yakopov is complimentary of Edmonton, calling it a great town with a good young team.

But the 18-year-old Yakupov says he doesn’t know where he will end up.

The Russian told reporters: “Same questions. I don’t know what you want. I’m not Gary Bettman or like a GM.”

The Sarnia Sting winger does say he believes he is ready to play in the NHL.
