NEW YORK, N.Y. – Social media has made inroads into shaping moviegoers’ choices at the multiplex, but a new poll finds that an overwhelming majority of moviegoers still count on movie reviews.
The Nielsen company announced Monday that their annual American Moviegoing report revealed that 80 per cent of moviegoers refer to movie reviews at least some of the time when deciding what to see. The survey found that 40 per cent say they value social media recommendations.
About equally reliable to moviegoers are movie trailers, which 44 per cent of those polled said they trust as a source of information on a film.
The Nielsen poll surveyed about 3,000 people, aged 12-74 who said they had seen at least one movie in theatres over the last year. Also polled were 600 children, aged 6 to 11, who participated with parental supervision.
