Man whose car struck teen outside school is charged

ABINGTON, Pa. – A man whose car hit a teen as she crossed a street in front of her Pennsylvania high school has been charged with vehicular assault and other crimes because prosecutors say he was speeding.

Detectives say James Clark IV was driving 46 mph in a 25 mph zone when his car struck 14-year-old Abington Senior High School student Kelly Williams late last month.

Prosecutors say the girl remained hospitalized Monday with kidney and spleen lacerations, a concussion, fractures to her pelvis, leg and vertebra and other injuries.

Witnesses said the girl was video chatting as she crossed the street using the crosswalk. But detectives did not cite it as a factor in the crash.

She was thrown more than 100 feet.

Court records don’t list an attorney for Clark.
