BRAMPTON, Ont. – Police say an officer who was shot at a Toronto-area courthouse remains in stable condition.
Const. Mike Klarenbeek (KLAR’-en-bek) of Peel Region police was providing security at the Brampton courthouse when a man walked in an opened fire.
Klarenbeek, 53, was shot and the man was killed by police gunfire.
The man’s name has not been released, but police believe he is from Brampton.
The Special Investigations Unit is going over the sequence of events at the courthouse Friday morning and has assigned more than a dozen investigators to the case.
The SIU investigates police actions involving death or serious injury.
