TORONTO – Having seen his MLS team hit the skids last season, Toronto FC manager Ryan Nelsen feels the pain the Maple Leafs are currently going through.
The Leafs had lost eight straight going into Tuesday’s home game against the Calgary Flames, with each loss pushing the playoffs further away.
“I feel for everybody at the Leafs,” Nelsen said when asked about the NHL team’s recent slide.
“I know the coach and the players, not (well) but I know them enough that they’re hurting more than any fan out there in Toronto and they’ll be doing as much as they can.
“But again, you’ve just got to believe in what you’re doing and you’ve got to be strong. And hopefully they can win the next six (games) and get in (the playoffs), which they’re more than capable of doing.”
Toronto FC and the Leafs are both owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.
