Mike Farnworth will give up B.C. NDP leadership bid, support John Horgan: Bains
VICTORIA – British Columbia New Democrat leadership candidate Mike Farnworth is quitting the campaign to replace Adrian Dix.
New Democrat member of the legislature Harry Bains has confirmed that Farnworth is giving up the race and will support John Horgan’s leadership bid during the September convention.
Up until last month, Horgan has said he would leave the party leadership to the new generation of NDP.
Horgan has called a news conference for 12:15 this afternoon.
When Farnworth announced his plans to run for party leader at the beginning of March, he said B.C. needs a progressive alternative who can win, and that’s what he planned to do.
The 54-year-old Port Coquitlam MLA, who came in second to Adrian Dix in the 2011 leadership contest, was the first to announce that he would run again.
