Clouds, showers this weekend in the Okanagan

OKANAGAN – The unseasonably cool and wet September will continue into the weekend in the Okanagan.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says temperatures this month have been below the seasonal average, but he hints by next week at this time things might be on the upswing as a high pressure ridge builds.

Showers are expected over the next three days in the valley, with periods of rain forecast for Kelowna and Vernon tomorrow. Lundquist says the rain will be heavier in the North Okanagan with amounts as high as 20 mm in some locations.

The forecast for today, Sept. 20, calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 17 Celsius. Expect rain tonight with a low of 9 C.

Tomorrow will only see the mercury climb to 11 C in Kelowna and Vernon, with periods of rain. Penticton has a 40 per cent chance of showers tomorrow with a high temperature of 17 C.

Saturday the possibility of rain remains, with a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high of 15C.

On Sunday, expect to see some sun breaking through the clouds and a high of 17 C, with more sun and a high of 18 on Monday, just in time to return to work.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 18 C and lows of 6 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
