Toe injury forces Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista to go on 15-day disabled list

BALTIMORE – Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday due to a left big toe strain.

He suffered the injury in Thursday’s 13-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. He left the game in the seventh inning after colliding with the outfield wall on a double by Cameron Rupp.

Bautista is batting .230 this season with 12 homers and 41 RBIs.

A team spokesman also confirmed that the Blue Jays recalled outfielder Darrell Ceciliani from triple-A Buffalo before Friday night’s game at Baltimore.

Also Friday, Toronto signed first-round pick T.J. Zeuch. He was selected with the 21st overall pick in last week’s draft.

The Blue Jays have signed 24 of their 41 selections from the draft, including nine of 11 players from the first 10 rounds.
