NBC News chief says she’s sticking by embattled David Gregory as ‘Meet the Press’ moderator

NEW YORK, N.Y. – NBC’s news chief is sticking up for embattled “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory.

NBC News President Deborah Turness said in a memo to the Sunday morning public affairs program’s staff members that she supports Gregory “now and into the future.” Once the dominant Sunday morning program, “Meet the Press” has sunk behind competing shows by CBS and ABC in the ratings.

Gregory on Friday denounced as “gossip reporting gone wild” reports that NBC has made him see a psychologist. The reports grew out of a story last weekend that said NBC had a consultant speak to Gregory’s wife and friends about the anchor’s strengths and weaknesses.
