New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur has hired prominent agent Pat Brisson days before the four-time Vezina Trophy-winner is set to become a free agent.
Canada’s TSN first reported the move on Friday, and Brisson confirmed it in a text message to The Associated Press later in the day. Though Brodeur has indicated he’d prefer re-signing with the Devils, Brisson wrote, “We will see,” when asked if the goalie would consider testing free agency when it opens on Sunday.
The 40-year-old Brodeur leads NHL goalies in most every statistical career category. He completed the final year of his contract after helping the Devils reach the Stanley Cup finals.
They Devils also announced they’ve re-signed five players: forwards Steve Bernier, Ryan Carter, Stephen Gionta and Cam Janssen, and defenceman Peter Harrold.
