Hundreds attend memorial services to mourn victim of Nanaimo sawmill shooting

NANAIMO, B.C. – Hundreds turned out for a memorial for one of two men who were fatally shot in a Vancouver Island mill.

Services for Fred McEachern (MAC-ACK-RIN) were held in Nanaimo and many are expected to attend Michael Lunn’s funeral later today.

Tony Sudar, a friend and colleague who survived the shooting, says both men were wonderful and gregarious people who cherished their families.

He says the funerals mark the next step in the healing process and that the community will pull together and “get over this.”

Two other people were wounded in the shootings, which occurred April 30th at the Western Forest Products sawmill.

Forty-seven-year-old Kevin Douglas Addison has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the shootings.

The suspect is being held in custody until his next court appearance later this month. (CKAY)
