Rob Ford’s apology ‘was enough,’ says Toronto’s deputy mayor

TORONTO – Toronto's deputy mayor says a public apology by embattled Mayor Rob Ford "may not be the one that everyone had anticipated but it was enough."

Norm Kelly says Ford provided a "blanket apology" and acknowledged that his personal lifestyle was affecting the life of the city.

He says that and a commitment from Ford to change his behaviour is a "good first step" for Canada's largest city.

Kelly spoke to reporters at city hall today after Ford told listeners of his Sunday radio show on Newstalk 1010 that he's done some "stupid things" and apologized to his family, members of city council and Toronto taxpayers.

He said he was referring to being inebriated in public and texting while driving.

He did not talk about the contents of a video that police say is "consistent" with media reports that it appears to show Ford smoking crack cocaine.

Ford only said police should release the video to the public.

But police say it's up to the courts to decide whether evidence is released to the general public.
