Wildfire forces thousands to evacuate in Southern California

SAN DIEGO – A brush fire has forced the evacuation of thousands of people in a Southern California city.

Carlsbad city officials said mandatory evacuations were in progress Wednesday, and more than 11,000 notices were sent to homes and businesses.

At least one home was seen engulfed in flames on local television.

The blaze was one of several that firefighters in San Diego County were battling amid hot, dry, windy conditions.

The fire on the outskirts of San Diego had threatened thousands of homes Tuesday and was 25 per cent contained.
