Vernon, B.C., vice-principal suspended for covertly boosting student’s grades
VANCOUVER – A former secondary school vice-principal in Vernon, B.C., has been disciplined for sweetening a student’s grades.
The B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation has found Vernon Secondary vice-principal Tony Dolinar acted dishonestly and without integrity when he accessed a student’s electronic records and increased the percentage mark for a total of four courses.
The covert changes meant the student won an academic award for the 2012-2013 school year that would not otherwise have been achieved.
A teacher raised concerns last November about the student’s grade.
The investigation by the Teacher Regulation Branch says Dolinar denied involvement in the matter but he was suspended without pay just before Christmas and resigned as vice-principal effective Jan. 31.
Dolinar’s teaching certificate has now been suspended for one month, beginning June 1, 2014.
