UPDATE: RCMP deem “suspicious item” in downtown Kamloops alley “not suspicious”

KAMLOOPS – Better safe than sorry. With that motto in mind, Kamloops RCMP closed an alley downtown Saturday afternoon, and closed and evacuated a business.

A “suspicious item” was found in the alley in the 400-block of Victoria Street around 1:38 p.m.

Several hours later the all clear was given and the business was allowed to reopen.

“The item in question was deemed not to be suspicious,” Staff Sgt. Lane Jumaga says in a media release, adding the matter is concluded.

Jumaga goes on to say, “Kamloops RCMP would like to thank those affected for their assistance and understanding in this matter.”

Police aren’t saying what the item was or why it was considered suspicious.
