Port Alberni RCMP say six-year-old child’s death considered ‘suspicious’

PORT ALBERNI, B.C. – The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council says it’s working closely with investigators after learning the death of “one of its own precious Nuu-chah-nulth children” has been deemed suspicious.

Port Alberni RCMP say the six-year-old child died March 13.

They are investigating the death alongside the BC Coroners Service.

“Our continued thoughts and prayers are with the families and community members during this challenging time,” Nuu-chah-nulth president Judith Sayers and vice-president Andrew Callicum said in a statement on behalf of the council.

The RCMP released no further information about where or how the child died.

Mounties say they believe there are people with information regarding the death and are asking them to come forward.
